Why we don’t do exchanges, free returns etc.
Some other clothing brands offer free exchanges, return, shipping etc and we have noticed a few people of late complaining that we don’t. I want to explain why that is.
Simply, it’s down to cost. Those other brands work on MUCH higher margins than us so they can afford to offer these things for free (but you are of course paying for them in the cost of everything you buy).
To give you an example, if you spend £100 on a product at an equivalent brand that product would typically cost them £30 to manufacture, so after VAT they have a margin of around £52. Plenty to offer free exchanges, free shipping discounts etc etc.
Our model is very different. As you know, we make entirely in the UK using premium fabrics and apply very small mark-ups. So, if you spend £100 on a product from us that product would typically cost us around £65 to manufacture so, after VAT we have a margin of just £17! And out of that we have to run the company, pay everybody’s wages etc.
If we offered free exchanges, shipping, returns ad etc we would probably have to put the price of every single thing we sell up by between 5% to 10%. And that doesn’t seem fair or honest. I know it is annoying when you need to pay for a return, but we would argue that it’s more annoying to know you were paying for exchanges and returns on every product you bought whether you return it or not.
