Washing your jersey

Washing your jersey

We recommend that you wash your jersey garment as little as possible. If they are not marked or stained, airing on the line, on a hanger or clothes rack can often be enough. For small marks, use a clean damp cloth and gently dab the area rather than washing the whole garment.

We recommend washing your jersey at 30 degrees. A low temperature is kinder to the cotton fibres, helps to minimise shrinkage and uses less energy.

It is best to wash your jersey inside out. This helps to protect the surface of the fabric from rubbing against other garments in the washing machine, minimising fading. Wash with similar colours, particularly when the garment is new as some dyes can release colour during the first few washes.

Drying and ironing your jersey

Drying and ironing your jersey

Do not tumble dry your jersey product as this will shrink it, and the heat will reduce the overall life.

Try where possible to dry your jersey product flat. Smoothing out any creases by hand while it is still damp will reduce the need for ironing. Take care when hanging heavy wet jersey so as not to stretch it out of shape.

If your jersey needs ironing, we suggest ironing it inside out to lessen the risk of marking, using the cotton setting on your iron.

Shrinkage

Shrinkage

Whilst we do our best to minimise it, some shrinkage is impossible to avoid if using natural cotton yarns without the use of chemical treatments or the use of non natural stabilising fibres.

All of our jersey is made from 100% natural cotton and as such all of our cotton jersey products will exhibit a certain amount of shrinkage on washing and drying. However following our washing instructions will minimise this.

The degree to which they shrink will depend upon the weight and knit structure so please see individual product descriptions.
